Introduction to GIS for Health In-Person

Tariem Burroughs, MSEd, MSODL, LKSOM Center for Bioethics, Urban Health, and Policy will be teaching this hands-on, maps-based GIS workshop that offers a holistic look at urban communities. Participants will gain exposure to community health and witness firsthand how maps can be used to highlight both positive and negative social determinants that may affect the health of residents of those communities. Over the course of this workshop, participants will learn how to observe, assess, and analyze community maps noting strengths, assets, and challenges related to health care while focusing on the social determinants of health. Participants will also be able to note assets, transportation, and other points of interest that pertain to their respective fields of interest utilization of data from trusted sources.
